Last Saturday on June 27, we attended the Commemoration of the Martyrdom of the Prophet Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum. It was 165 years ago that very day that it occurred. It was held outside the Carthage Jail at 5:15 in the afternoon....the exact time he was killed. We went early and were able to get a seat on the second row. It was a very touching and spiritual program. The Young Performing Missionaries sang as well as the Young Sister Missionaries. The Nauvoo Brass Band also played. One of our fellow temple missionaries, Elder DeBry, gave the main speech. It was excellent! The weather was hot and humid, but there was a nice breeze throughout the program so we were not too uncomfortable. Then about 1/2 hour after the program ended, the heavens just opened up and there was a torrential downpour! We thought it was quite appropriate for the occasion!

Rick looks great in that hat! Thanks for sharing. I got chills. What a great place to be for that occassion. We missed you guys too...not much for fireworks here either. We had off and on rain for the entire day...we even had our ward party on a beach. In and out of the water and ducking in and out of the car:-)
